Lead Engineer | TypeScript, Marketplace & Operations Sydney CBD · Full-time, permanent · 4 days in office We are hiring a Lead Engineer for a profitable, 5-year-old Australian business using software to solve complex operational problems and build a new B2B marketplace. The business already has revenue, customers and a working operational platform. The next stage is building software that helps coordinate ordering, vendor management, procurement, delivery, invoicing and internal workflows through one account. This is a complex, high-ownership engineering role. You will be close to the problems, the people using the software and the commercial outcomes behind the work. The problems The interesting part is the connection between software and a real-world operation. The platform needs to support workflows across customers, suppliers, production, logistics, payments, accounting and internal teams. Product decisions affect revenue, margin, customer experience and operational speed. What you'll do Build marketplace and commerce workflows across ordering, vendor management and procurement Turn messy real-world processes into reliable software Use AI tools to improve engineering speed and automate workflows Improve reliability, architecture, testing and code quality Work directly with the founder and business users to shape product decisions About you Bring strong TypeScript experience across backend or full-stack development Own software end to end and make sound product and commercial trade-offs Translate technical ideas clearly to non-technical people Bring energy for a young, fast-moving business environment Work well in an in-office culture, with the team together 4 days per week Actively use AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code or similar Useful experience Marketplace, e-commerce or operational platform experience Headless commerce, headless CMS or composable architecture Logistics, fulfilment, inventory, payments or procurement systems AI or LLM features, or workflow automation in production Stack TypeScript, Node, React, Postgres and GCP.
